Cyberattacks occur all the time, in all kinds of ways, all over the world — from the WannaCry ransomware attack that spread across nonupdated networks and systems across the globe to a seemingly innocuous email from a company’s IT department disguised as a phishing scam.
Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated, leaving business leaders to wonder how to proactively manage new threats and keep their people, data and assets secure.
Phishing and spear phishing are some of the main vectors of cyberattacks. In phishing schemes, the perpetrator sends a fraudulent email requesting the recipient provide personal information. Some of the most coveted data are credit card numbers, higher education student information and patient medical records.
“That information presents some of the highest rewards for hackers,” said Robert Eckman, chief information security officer for MCPc, a Cleveland-based consultancy and technology integrator.
